Abraq Hospital
Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir
This 80-bed hospital is designed as a context-responsive healthcare facility, rooted in the climate and cultural fabric of Srinagar. The architecture draws from local building traditions, with sloping roofs and climate-sensitive massing adapted to respond to the region’s weather conditions while maintaining a contemporary expression.
Materiality plays a key role in establishing identity. Locally sourced stone is combined with refined detailing to create a façade that feels grounded and familiar, yet aligned with modern healthcare standards. This balance allows the building to sit naturally within its surroundings while maintaining a distinct institutional presence.
Beyond functionality, the design emphasizes community engagement and patient experience. Thoughtfully integrated elements such as a sculptural feature wall and curated graphic art soften the clinical environment, creating a more welcoming and uplifting atmosphere for patients and visitors.
The project demonstrates how regional sensitivity, material honesty, and human-centered design can come together to deliver a healthcare facility that is both contextually relevant and experientially rich.
